ETLA – Digital Platform for a European Association on International Trade Law
ETLA (European Trade Lawyers Association) is an independent, nonprofit association that brings together legal practitioners, academics, and students active in the fields of international trade law and European Union law.
The association’s mission is to promote the exchange of knowledge, debate, and collaboration among professionals on legal issues related to global trade and European trade policies.
Based in Brussels, ETLA regularly organizes events, conferences, and discussions bringing together industry experts to share analyses and practical experiences and to monitor developments in the legal framework governing international trade.
VR Agency has worked with ETLA (European Trade & Legal Association), an independent association bringing together legal professionals, academics, and students active in the fields of international trade law and European Union law.
The goal of the project was to create a professional digital platform that would reflect the association’s credibility while making it easier to manage its community and activities.
The Project in a Nutshell
The project included:
• Design and development of a fully custom, responsive website
• Implementation of a secure members-only area with role-based access control
• Deployment of a simple and effective content management system
• Organizing the content to clearly present the association’s mission, activities, and governance
The platform now enables ETLA to centralize its communications and interactions with its professional community.
The Challenge
Before we got involved, the organization faced several limitations in its digital presence.
First of all, the lack of a central platform prevented ETLA from clearly positioning itself as a go-to resource for professionals in international trade law.
Furthermore, the association did not have a system in place to manage access to member-only resources, which limited interaction and the sharing of exclusive content.
Finally, the management of events, registrations, and content relied on several disparate tools, which complicated administrative processes.
The goal, therefore, was to create a clear, credible, and scalable platform capable of supporting the community’s growth.
Our Solution
Architecture Designed with the User Experience in Mind
We have designed a structure based on the experiences of different audiences:
• visitors learning about the organization
• professionals interested in joining ETLA
• existing members
• event participants
This approach allows each user to quickly find relevant information and understand the value of the association.
A secure members-only area with role-based access control
We have developed a secure, private space that allows you to:
• Administrators can manage members and internal content
• members to access exclusive resources
• to share information intended for the community
This system strengthens the association’s collaborative and professional aspects.
A scalable and easy-to-manage CMS
The website was designed to allow the ETLA team to easily manage:
• events
• publications and articles
• information related to membership
• institutional content
The goal: to provide complete autonomy in managing the site, without any technical dependencies.
Result
The new platform now provides ETLA with:
• a clear and credible institutional website
• a secure members-only area that fosters community engagement
• a scalable digital infrastructure to support the association’s growth
This platform thus becomes a true digital hub for professionals in international trade law.
